Trevor Robert Jones

Trevor Robert Jones, loving husband, father, son, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 13, 2017 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was thirty-nine years old.

Trevor was born in Portland, Oregon to Robert Bruce and Joy Diane Harmon Jones, and was the second of five children.

Trevor was raised in Santa Rosa, California, where he enjoyed family, school, church, and sports activities. He played basketball tirelessly with his older brother and made many Scouting and camping memories earning his Eagle Scout award.

At the age of sixteen, he and his family moved to Draper, where Trevor graduated from Alta High School. After serving an honorable LDS mission to Campinas, Brazil, he resumed his education at BYU, where he studied accounting and Information Systems.

Not long before graduating, Trevor met the love of his life, Angelique Thomas. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple in 2002. Trevor worked for KPMG in Phoenix, Arizona, where they started their family and Trevor completed his CPA.

They later moved to Draper, where they were blessed with more children, proximity to family, and an amazing LDS ward family. Trevor also completed his MBA, and at the time of his passing was the Director of Internal Audit at Intermountain Health Care.

Trevor enjoyed his career because of the special team with whom he worked. He often expressed his gratitude for his dear friends, Chad Funk and Jennifer Conley, who patiently and lovingly listened to and counseled him during many of his difficult moments. Trevor loved to laugh and had an infectious sense of humor. He had an incredible ability to recall information, which led to his childhood nickname, “Mr. Memory.”

Although fall was his favorite season, he became like a little child and marveled at each winter’s first snowfall. Trevor loved to be outdoors. He enjoyed early-morning mountain biking with his father, brother, and oldest son. He would often say that when he got to his office after a ride, nothing he faced that day could be more difficult than the mountain he conquered that morning.

He and his family often enjoyed hikes in Corner Canyon. He enjoyed gardening and planting fruit trees with his children and was always amazed at the miracle of growth contained inside each seed. He loved to surprise Angelique and their children with notes and surprises on special days or when he traveled.

Trevor had a gift for taking the focus off himself and showing a genuine interest in others. He had a special knack for asking thoughtful questions. He was a natural teacher, and he counseled many to help them become better than they thought they were. He always had the ability to take the complex and make it easily understandable.

Trevor sought quiet ways to give service. He loved doing family history and taught his children how to find members of their family tree. He guided his children through love and example, and they adored their daddy. Trevor was wise beyond his years. He had powerful faith and honored his Heavenly Father and His Savior to the very end.

Trevor loved to serve. His most recent calling in the LDS Church afforded him the opportunity to work closely with the young men in his ward. He treasured those relationships and loved watching the boys’ growth, their mission service, and their life choices.

Trevor’s mission scripture was DC 84:88, “And whoso receiveth you, there I will be also, for I will go before your face. I will be on your right hand and on your left, and my spirit shall be in your hearts, and mine angels round about you, to bear you up.” Trevor believed that he would now be able to be a guardian angel to his family. He was excited to watch his precious children grow up and still be a part of their lives. He often told them he would have special privileges on the other side to watch over and care for them.

Trevor had a deep and abiding love for his Savior, the restored gospel of Jesus Christ, and for his ever-supportive family. He was grateful for his mother, father, siblings, and mother-in-law who offered incredible support through his cancer and, of course, for Angelique who lovingly cared for him and held his hand to the end.

Despite his health challenges and many who perceived his plight as unfair, he never asked, “Why?” Instead, he always trusted in the Lord’s plan by encouraging others to “be still and know that I am God,” insisting that “after much tribulation come the blessings” and that there was no room for grief in the Plan of Happiness.

Trevor’s love for Angelique was and is unmatched. His goal in life was to make her laugh each day and to always put her needs first. He often stated that no two people were more meant to be together than he and Angelique.

Trevor is survived by his wife of fifteen years, Angelique; their five children, Jarret, Sabrina, Kimball, Brixon, and Savannah; parents, Robert and Joy Jones; and siblings, Brandon (Wendy) Jones, Arian (Jordan) Hatch, Ashley (Josh) Arnold, and Kelsey (Zach) Kacher.
