Pop Culture: 1993 Prince announces he is changing his name to an unpronounceable symbol.; 1996 "Nutty Professor" starring Eddie Murphy opens in theaters in the USA; 1996 Burt Bacharach appeared at The Royal Albert Hall, London. Oasis guitarist Noel Gallagher joined him on-stage for a version of This Guy's In Love With You.
Science: 1993 The World Meteorological Organization reports global temperature records from the previous year.
Sports: 1993 Pete Sampras defeats Boris Becker in the Wimbledon quarterfinals.
Tech: 1993 Hayes Microcomputer Products releases the first 28.8 kbps modem.
