Local & World News: 1993 The Haitian military refuses to accept the Governors Island accord with Jean-Bertrand Aristide.; 1994 Cuba and the US reach an agreement to stop the refugee crisis with the US accepting 20,000 Cubans annually

Business & Economy: 1993 The S&P 500 index closes above 460 for the first time.

Pop Culture: 1993 Dr. Dre's debut album "The Chronic" is certified triple platinum.; 1995 The first 'Lollapalooza' music festival that includes Hole, Sonic Youth, and Cypress Hill attracts over 350,000 attendees; 1996 James Brown appeared in Montauk, New York, as part of his Back at the Ranch tour. Brown who had a history of beating his wife, offered money that was raised at the event to an anti-violence organization called The Retreat, but was turned down.

Tech: 1993 Sega announces the Saturn game console as its next-generation gaming platform.

Sports: 1993 Jim Courier defeats Stefan Edberg in the Volvo International tennis final.
