Exactly 20 years ago we graduated.
Remember how we lined the halls in our silver and black graduation gowns at the McKay Events Center at Utah Valley State College? We were the first graduating class from Alta to hold their graduation there. Remember how it took several hours to read through all of the 800+ names? It seemed like it would never end. Remember how it was the last time we were all together?
I came across my graduation speech about a month ago as I was digging through memorabilia and scrapbooks in preparation for our reunion celebration in August. Although I won’t regale you with the full speech, besides McKenzie Reid’s was much better, here is a snippet from it:
Inside us, around us, before us, lie acres of diamonds. To discover all that we are and all that we can do, we need clear vision and sincere hearts. We have much to offer, much to learn, and much to do. As live with vision, we can become powerful forces in our communities and in our country. Each of us can make a difference for good in the world.
As the reunion committee has been working together to track down our graduating class, I have been impressed with how much we have accomplished, how much we have overcome, and how much we have made a difference for good. Everyone has an important and amazing story to tell.
It’s been 20 years since we’ve all hung out together. Come hang out and let’s celebrate all that we are.
